Biography

Mr. Simpson is an experienced trial and appellate attorney who has practiced law since 1988 and practiced law in the U.S. Virgin Islands since 1991.  He frequently appears in the courts of the Virgin Islands and the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals.  He believes in giving clients a realistic assessment of their cases at the outset of the litigation so that they can make informed decisions about pursuing litigation, settlement and/or appeals. Mr. Simpson’s goal in the early assessment of the case is to ensure that, absent the development of unforeseen circumstances, the assessment of the case will not change as the case approaches trial.
 
Mr. Simpson is nationally recognized for his appellate advocacy and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. use of technology in delivering services to his clients and explaining cases to a jury. He speaks regularly at seminars on technology, including speaking at the 2008 ABA TECHSHOW. He also serves on the editorial board of the ABA’s GP|Solo Technology and Practice Guide

  • In 2009, Mr. Simpson was chosen by the American Bar Association Techshow Board to be a presenter at the ABA’s annual Techshow – the ABA’s premier technology conference for lawyers. He has also presented on numerous legal technology and law practice management topics at various conferences around the country
  • In 1998, Mr. Simpson was presented with the Euan P. McFarlane Environmental Leadership Award (described here), which is awarded annually to individuals demonstrating initiative, resourcefulness and leadership in promoting conservation and enhancement of the environment in the Caribbean. Mr. Simpson received the award for his successful pro bono efforts to protect Jack and Isaac Bays on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands which, in the process, set an important precedent relating to how the government must review proposed development activities within the coastal zone
