WELCOME & HURRICANE MARIA UPDATE

On September 20, 2017, Hurricane Maria passed within 20 miles of St. Croix as a Category 5 hurricane. All staff members have reported in and they and their families are safe. The office survived the storm quite well with minor damage. All client files are safe and we had multiple digital back ups of all files stored offsite, just in case.

At present (as of 9/25/2017), we are under a curfew that allows us out of our homes from 12 noon until 4 p.m. daily. Power has not been restored to the office, but we do have telephone and Internet service when we run our generator.  We are presently turning our good fortune to benefit the residents of St. Croix by setting up multiple wifi hotspots at our office to provide free Internet access to anyone who comes to the corner of Queen and Church Streets during the hours that curfew is lifted.  The local telephone company, VIYA, upon learning of what we were doing, voluntarily increased our Internet speed to make it easier for people taking advantage of this service. In just the first two days, hundreds of people have congregated at our building to use the free wifi; for some, it was the first time since the hurricane hit that they had been able to communicate with loved ones in the states.

The courts of the Territory remain closed.  We expect them to remain closed at least through September 29, 2017; as, everyone is focused on the immediate needs of disaster recovery.  All deadlines have beens suspended and new deadlines will be established once things have begun to return to normal.

Because we do not yet have power at our building, our email server is only able to operate when we can be in the office during the non-curfew hours to run the generator. We will get email, even if you may get a message indicating that the email is delayed. If you have an emergency, the best way to reach us is to text a message to 340.514.6073.

The Territory of the U.S. Virgin Islands, and St. Croix in particular, has a well-earned reputation as a "high verdict" jurisdiction. When the stakes are so high, it is important to have an experienced trial team presenting a sophisticated defense that draws upon the latest legal and technological developments possible. We find that our clients also value our practice of giving accurate evaluations of cases from their inception -- evaluations that do not change simply because a trial date is approaching. We are prepared to -- and do -- try our clients' cases. The law firm of Andrew C. Simpson, P.C., offers this type of a defense, serving the entire U.S. Virgin Islands from its St. Croix base. Attorney Andrew C. Simpson regularly tries jury cases on behalf of corporate defendants and pursues those verdicts on appeal if necessary. The firm serves clients in the areas of:
